ABOUT DR. GAIL LINN

Dr. Gail Linn Potomac Audiology Rockville, Maryland

Gail Linn, owner of Potomac Audiology, has worked with the hearing impaired since 1984. During this time she owned a practice in Waterloo, Iowa that included a main office and five satellite offices. In 1998 she moved to the Washington DC area and opened Potomac Hearing Professionals. She also served as the Director of Private Practice and Industry at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). In June of 2004, Gail resigned her position at ASHA to pursue private practice full time. During her tenure at ASHA she conducted many interviews and was the Ex-Officio on a number of practice documents.Gail is also a Technical Expert for Frye Electronics, where she trains other hearing healthcare professionals on equipment for hearing evaluations and hearing aid fitting.

Her area of expertise in the field of audiology is hearing aid fitting. She takes special care in the evaluation process and the hearing aid fitting process. She believes that the use of Real-Ear Measurement is one of the keys to successful hearing aid fitting.

SERVICES:

Audiometric Evaluations for Adults
Potomac Audiology's audiometric evaluation for adults consists of testing with both speech and pure tones. Pure-tone testing determines the amount of hearing loss for the volume of sound and speech-discrimination testing evaluates hearing loss that affects the intelligibility of speech.

Hearing Aid Selection
We offer a wide selection of hearing aids from a variety of leading manufacturers, including digitally processed and digitally programmable hearing aids. Our professionals work with you to find the best solution for your hearing healthcare needs within your budget.

Hearing Aid Repair
Potomac Audiology handles repair of all hearing aid brands, with quick turnaround and at a reasonable cost. We also provide a loaner hearing aid to use during the repair period.

Hearing Aid Warranty Service
If your hearing aid requires servicing while still under manufacturer's warranty, either for new product or repair warranties, we handle the paperwork and give you a loaner hearing aid to use in the meantime.

Hearing Aid Evaluation
At your hearing aid evaluation we work with you to determine the type of hearing aid best suited to your unique needs, including the style, model and number of hearing aids necessary. The selection accommodates your needs, preferences and budget, including your lifestyle and activity level, medical conditions, physical characteristics and limitations, cosmetic and style preferences and financial expectations.

Custom-Made Ear Molds for Noise Protection
Any type of noise exposure is potentially damaging to hearing, so whether your noise exposure comes from your work environment or just mowing your lawn, custom ear molds can provide protection from noise-induced hearing loss. We offer custom-made in-the-ear monitors for musicians for onstage or personal use, as well as earpieces custom-fit for maximum comfort for hands-free cellular phone operators.

Real-Ear Measurement
Real-Ear Measurement is made using a small tube that is attached to a microphone. This tube is inserted into the ear along with the hearing aid, allowing the true output of the aid (as modified by the ear canal with the hearing aid in place) to be measured, thus assuring adequate amplification when setting or programming the aid.

Tinnitus Diagnostics, Management and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)
Many people experience ringing or other noise in the ear or head. We evaluate the nature of this noise, making appropriate medical referrals, and discuss possibilities in management such as tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT).

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)
Potomac Audiology provides information and guidance on the use of assistive listening devices, such as amplified telephones, FM transmitter systems and infrared systems. These systems serve as additional help in situations when hearing aids do not provide adequate assistance. We will either order the appropriate device or provide you with information to obtain products yourself.
